A cornucopia of DVD horror release dates have recently been announced, including:
September 9:
- House of the Dead Director's Cut: Funny Version
Um, what? You heard right. It seems that human punchline Uwe Boll thinks that his "breakthrough" zombie film House of the Dead could work as a comedy (pictured), so he's added new dialogue, alternative takes, pop up commentary and animation from the original video game to enhance the funny. Sounds hilarious. And by "hilarious" I mean "hot-poker-in-the-eye painful." It should at least be called Intentionally Funny Version, because I found myself laughing pretty hard at the original. - Seed
Can't get enough Uwe Boll? Seed, the tale of a killer who escapes being buried alive by police and goes about seeking revenge, is one of, like, 18 films he's directed in the past two years.
September 30:
- Pulse 2: Afterlife
I didn't like the American remake of the Japanese film Pulse, but I did think that it might be cool to explore the apocalyptic, ghost-plagued world that appeared at the end of the film. Lo and behold, we have a sequel that purports to do just that. Granted, it's direct-to-video, but it couldn't be much worse than the first.
October 7:
- Feast 2: Sloppy Seconds
That the sequel to the fun monster movie Feast would go straight to DVD is no big shock, since the first film barely hit the big screen. There should be little drop in production value in this continuing story of the survivors of the initial monster attack getting a second helping of the vicious creatures. - Joy Ride 2: Dead Ahead
In yet another direct-to-video sequel, two couples steal a car they assume is abandoned, but it turns out to belong to demented truck driver Rusty Nail. Road rage ensues. - Wicked Lake
Airing at this year's Fantasia Film Fest, this shocker finds a group of young witches turning the tables on would-be rapists.
October 14:
- Dance of the Dead
Zombies invade a high school prom in one of eight DVDs released this day under Sam Raimi's Ghost House Underground label, first reported here. The others include: Brotherhood of Blood, Dark Floors, The Last House in the Woods, No Man's Land, Room 205, The Substitute and Trackman. - Return to Sleepaway Camp
The long-awaited fourth film in the Sleepaway Camp series finally sees the light of day after sitting in limbo for four years. After taking parts 2 and 3 off, Felissa Rose returns as femme fatale Angela Baker.
October 21:
- The Strangers
Now you can enjoy one of the scariest movies of the year in the comfort of your own home. Alone. In the dark. With masked intruders no doubt peeking through your window. Sleep tight!
October 28:
- Zombie Strippers
Jenna Jameson, Robert Englund and zombies. What more could you ask for?
